Member Services
  • United has a scholarship program that is offered to all senior students whose parents or guardians receive power from United Electric. In 2006 we presented four (4) $500.00 scholarships to deserving students. Three of the scholarship are in memory of deceased employees: The Larry Burbank Memorial Scholarship, The Grant Saxton Memorial Scholarship and the John Jones Memorial Scholarship. The fourth one is the United Electric Co-op Scholarship.

  • We sponsor up to ten sophomore and junior students who are interested in attending the ICUA Youth Rally each summer. There they have the chance to learn about electricity, how a co-op runs, personal safety, drug awareness and leadership skills. It's a great way to make new friends and have lots of just plain fun. The participants also have the opportunity to earn scholarships at the rally and one lucky youth will receive an all expense paid trip to Washington D.C.
If your student is interested, they can obtain an application form in the Ruralite Magazine, at the United Electric office and from their school counselors as early as February each year.

  • We offer a Mutual Benefit Card which enables each member to receive goods or services, from participating businesses in the area, at a reduced rate or free of charge.

  • United has a financing program for new energy efficient windows, doors, insulation and water heaters. We finance at 9% for up to five years with no down payment. If you are interested or have any questions please contact Curtiss Peterson in our Heyburn office.

  • In the market for a water heater? Buy one from United and receive a rebate which will be applied to your power bill. We also sell water distillers.

  • United offers "Automatic payment withdrawal." Just bring in a voided check, fill out a short form and you no longer worry about your power bill being paid.

  • United now offers online billing & payment options. United also accepts Visa Credit & Debt card payments as well as electronic check payments.

What It Means To Be A Nonprofit Utility

All income in excess of the cost of providing electric service is treated as member savings. These "savings" are known as patronage capital or capital credits and belong to United Electric's member/owners in proportion to their electric usage.

Patronage capital may be returned in the form of a capital credit check when the board of directors determines that the money can be paid without jeopardizing United's fiscal responsibilities or service dependability. Research is now being done to insure the proper credit amount is refunded to the correct party.

Being a member/owner not only means that you may receive capital credit refunds, you also have the responsibility to be involved in your cooperative by voting in all director elections and by sharing your concerns with our directors, management and employees.

United Electric Co-op Policies

All United Customer's meters are read monthly.

In order to understand demand, imagine that it is 5:30 p.m., December 23rd. You come home, turn on the lights, turn up the heat, put the kids in the bathtub and a load of clothes in the washer; turn on the outside Christmas lights and turn up the carols on the stereo. While you heat water for tea, you put a roast in the oven and check the news on television. Then you hear the sound of a circular saw and the radio from the basement.

Because United's power distribution system (conductor, transformers, etc.) was designed to handle this short period of increased demand for power, you (and your neighbors) suffer no inconvenience. In a few minutes the tea is hot, the furnace kicks off, the Christmas project in the basement is complete and your demand for electricity decreases considerably. The same power distribution system is still in place carrying the reduced load. The cost of building and maintaining this system remains the same regardless of the size load carried at any given time.

For this reason consumers are charged for both the number of kilowatt hours of electricity and for the system costs needed to assure their instantaneous demand for power is always capable of being met. As you can see from the rate schedule, not all classes break out or seperate the demand charge.

If you have any questions about how your bill is calculated please call or stop by our office. We always look forward to talking with you and helping you better understand your cooperative and how it works for you.
